First , no it should be ok weight-wise since the majority of the weight of a sickle bar mower is behind the tractor on the 3pth. Second, don't try to use it for ANYTHING but what it was designed for, mowing hay. However tempting it may be, do not try to cut road-sides, ditches, hill-sides, etc. with it. After some 20+ years of landscaping I have seen COUNTLESS sickle-bars used this way, usually their life expectancy can be counted in hours after starting that kind of work. Lastly, I question the 4000lbs figure, I think you are under-estimating your machine's bulk, especially with cab & loader......... ....

I agree with the previous post about the sickle weight. they will work fine on your machine. most sickles only weigh about 550-650 lbs.I use a 7 ft. sickle behind my JD 870 to mow my hay. no problems with it. just don't get in a hurry and start going to fast. the sickle will start to skip over the grass. be sure to keep the knife sharp for the best results and try to cover or store the implement inside when not in use. ....

Would a 7' John Deere model 39 sicklebar mower work on a John Deere 4400 HST compact tractor. I just found out there is one in an auction tomarrow. It looks to be in very good shape, always kept inside. Also any idea on the value.
Thanks. Chris
